manic musings

In light of violent tragedies that have occurred all too frequently in the recent years, I, like most people, have paused to take a serious look at what is happening in our great country. I’m saddened by those that misinterpret the “Demand a Plan” PSA I participated in. In short, we asked our leaders for a plan, hence, “Demand a Plan”, and its most certainly not stripping us of our rights as Americans; that is absolutely asinine.

We all want to point a finger, to place blame, and look for answers when we feel attacked or afraid, which is a natural human reaction. But I know there is no single solution to remedy what has been done or to prevent any future tragedies. Taking guns from people is no answer. I own guns and want to keep it that way. But guns don’t kill people… people kill people. Blaming movies or video games is no actionable solution.

Let us all take accountability and responsibility for ourselves. Let’s stop blaming and take action, because we ALL agree, I can say with certainty, that everyone is outraged with what has been happening in this country. We all need something to be done.

I believe the deeper we look into these behaviors and understand what can be done at the root level, we stand a better chance at any change. A quick band-aid reaction to cauterize a deep wound doesn’t work.

There is no one solution sadly.

I believe our salvation begins in each of our homes. It starts with parenting, which has become increasingly more challenging in recent years. Outside the fact that in most households BOTH parents must work to provide for their family, it just gives the parents less time for.. well, parenting. In a communication age where technology is growing at a much faster rate than we can truly understand, our youth has available to them more information and access to pretty much everything before they are socially and mentally matured. Our children need to be attended to with even greater care. How can this be achieved? Is this an impossible task? Well, I believe its a start…

Day 22, year 2 - Thank you, Professor Tolkien.
Today is, of course, the birthday of J.R.R. Tolkien and however you choose to mark the occasion I’d heartily encourage you to be grateful and to think - to take a few moments to think of all the parts of your life that would be different had it not been because of the writing of this one man.
Think of….
The friends you’ve made because of Tolkien.
The people who you’ve come to love and value.
The places you’ve travelled to.
The things you’ve done, the things you’ve tried, the things you’ve seen.
The movies and books - not just those directly linked to Tolkien, but all those who were inspired by Tolkien - that you’ve thrilled to and enjoyed.
The games you’ve played.
The art that has been created.
The music that has been written.
The ways you’ve been inspired.
Think….and remember that none of this would have happened had it not been for the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien. Think, be grateful and wish him a very happy birthday indeed.
Thank you, Professor Tolkien.

Lawless CLIP - We’re Survivors (2012) Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf Movie HD (by MovieclipsCOMINGSOON)

I will say it now.  Tom Hardy will win an Academy Award. Soon. If it doesn’t happen in 2013 then it will before 2015.  If he keeps making the choices in rolls that he has been making there is no doubt Oscar will grace his mantle.  He has more than earned it.
